Sri Lakshmi Adinarayana Swami Temple, Yellodu

Our first trek for the day to Gudibande fort had filled us with energy and enthusiasm. We took some interior unpaved roads suggested by Google maps to our next destination - Lakshmi Adinarayana swami temple, Yellodu. The road passed through vineyards and was an interesting drive.

Parvathamalai

I woke up at 4:30 AM. Got ready and left the guest house at around 5 AM. At the main road, I boarded a bus and got off at Tiruvannamalai bus station. I enquired with the people around on a bus to Parvathamalai. They directed me to the exit of the bus station. There was a private bus waiting to be filled.

Gadaikallu aka Jamalabad Fort Trek

I had trekked Gadaikallu back in 2010. But, I had completely forgotten about the experience. So, I planned to trek to Gadaikallu again along with my friends Naresh and Deekshit. On thursday, the 9th of December, I picked up Deekshit from Surathkal bus station and drove to Naresh’s house. His mother had invited us over for lunch. We had a heavy and delicious meal at their place. While Naresh finished his meeting, we had a good chat with his parents.

I was introduced to Malayalam cinema very early in my life, thanks to my parents who had lived in Ernakulam (Kochi) for more than 10 years and are great admirers of the movies made there. Even after their return to Mangalapuram (Mangalore in Malayalam), they continued to watch and like Malayalam films. We would never miss the Sunday afternoon regional movies aired on Doordarshan and often made trips to the movie theatres to watch new releases. My earliest memories are of films like Godfather, Manichitrathazhu and other popular movies of Mammootty and Mohanlal.

Kumbakonam Navagraha Temples | Thanjavur | Darasuram

My wife had been wanting to go to Kumbakonam and visit the temples dedicated to the 9 planets worshipped in the Hindu tradition. I invited my mother to join us. To a non-believer like me, this was going to be an overdose of temples. It surprises me that people believe in these concepts so religiously despite knowing very well that 4 among these 9 are not even planets. The Sun is a star, The Moon is a natural satellite of the Earth. Rahu and Kethu are not even a physical object. They are in fact the ascending and descending node of the moon that causes eclipse. Our ancestors were definetly not fools. They were very intelligent people. Lot of their findings have been further developed and helped the later generations to discover the secrets of the universe. However, they were also wrong about many things. Likewise, we might be wrong about many things today and only the future can reveal that. Anyways, I shall allow the believers...
