Exploring A Tibetan Settlement

Have you ever got up one morning and thought of going anywhere far away from everything that you are part of and explore yourself on an unknown, unplanned journey to somewhere? Have you felt good about the thought of disappearing away from this chaotic city life and go somewhere more serene? Well if you ask me, I have always had this thought. I wanted to just tread on an unknown path, to a place where I do not know anybody and no one knows me. And this weekend that dream turned into reality. A few weekends of watching television, meeting friends and shopping made me wonder if I had nothing exciting to do out of these two days that I get. This was when I decided on going on this unplanned trip to somewhere. I always wanted to go to Bylekuppe, it’s one of the largest Tibetan settlement in India and here in Karnataka. Yes not in Nepal, Bhutan or any other north eastern part of India, but very much in my own state, Karnataka. Except this and directions to get there, I knew nothing else

Kumara Parvatha Trek - Day 01

For a traveler, the destination is never important, but what matters is the journey. What best than a trek could completely define this? So when Subbu and I discussed a plan, Kumara Parvatha was on the top of the list, it was one among the toughest trek in the state, it was interesting because we would take a different route to descend, into a different district. Within few days all was planned and 6 more joined our enthusiasm. We rented sleeping bags and 2 tents from Wildcraft, Marathhali. With our backpacks consisting of 80 chapati’s, 50 Mangalore buns, fruits, biscuits and other personal needs we assembled at Bangalore railway station at 8:30 PM on Nov 13th. The train to Mangalore arrived at 8:55PM, on time. After a few leisure talks we went to sleep, all excited about the day to come. Early morning, at 5:45 AM, we reached Subramanya. Meenakshi Temple & Bannerghatta Park

It was Mahesh's idea to go on a drive during the weekend. We decided on Meenakshi temple on Bannerghatta road. Sundar joined us. At 11:00 Am, three of us took off on two bikes. We reached the temple in just half an hour. The temple is constructed by the same trustee that runs the Madurai Meenakshi temple. Of course, this is a miniature version of the original master piece. But what pleased me the most about this place is its serene atmosphere. I loved the place for the divinity it generated in the midst of busy, hectic Bangalore life. For Bangaloreans, who want to spend some divine moments at a temple that provokes Bhakti, this place is a must go. After spending some time at the temple both Mahesh and I agreed that the journey had to continue, not back home but to some place, even further. Bananthimari Betta Trek

Bananthimari betta aka Maribetta aka Karadibetta is one of the less explored hills in the vicinity of Bangalore. I had always wanted to trek here but found very less reliable information on the place. A week ago, when my colleague Sharath and I discussed a trekking plan during the long weekend, this was an obvious choice. As the day approached of the trek (3rd September), we were joined by 10 other people. Last evening, I had a tough time finding a descent blog that could direct us properly up to the summit of Bananthimari Betta. Several of them had gone lost while trekking here and some seem to have taken a different route along with some established trek groups.
