Backpacking Vietnam: Day 07 (29 July 2019)

Adventure

Ha giang Loop - Day 02 (Yên Minh -> Lung Cứ  -> Dong Van - 90km)

We had our breakfast and left at around 8:30AM. The route ahead was filled with spectacular views. The timing of this trip had been perfect. During the month of July, the entire place had turned lush green. We stopped at the most iconic viewpoint on Ha Giang loop to view the winding road that we had just taken.

At lung Cu there is a flag post. The view from the hill top is spectacular. At a small food shack here, we had our lunch - Veg fried noodles and omelette.

Here, I met two British men - Michael and William. They mentioned about the Northern most point of Vietnam, close to the Chinese border. I expressed my desire to join them to discover the place.

We followed the road behind the flag post to reach the northern most point of Vietnam. The mud road ended abruptly. While Tom and Marie waited, the three of us decided to climb the small hill by foot and see the border. On the China side, there are watchtowers with cameras. A minefield separates Vietnam from China. We crossed the no man's land, unaware of the danger. On the Chinese side, a concrete road ended at the border. Even in this region where nobody lives, China had good roads. Afraid of the surveillance and the mines, we quickly walked back.

We headed towards Dong Van. Michael and William joined us. Along the route, we passed next to another border point. There was a guard stationed there to prevent people from crossing over. Along the way to Dong Van, we were welcomed by more beautiful sights. These pictures can express better.

We reached Dong Van and booked a stay in CND hostel. This was a party hostel. Loud music and drinking were a common thing here. Tom and Marie had booked a different place and they told me that they would meet me the next day. In the evening, Michael, William and I took a walk to explore Don Van market. I enjoyed a good Coconut coffee and hot pumpkin soup at a local cafe.

At the hostel, we played some card games before going to bed. The hostel was noisy and people were partying all night. Everything seemed acceptable on this trip - Everything was new to me and I enjoyed even that chaos.
