Backpacking Vietnam: Day 09 (31 July 2019)

Memories

Ha giang Loop - Day 04 (Du Gia -> Hà Giang - 120km)

In the morning, I took a walk to explore the home stay I was in. There was some construction work going on in the backyard. The puppies of the homestay followed me wherever I went. The dogs here are adorable.

Later that morning, I took a walk to the market. Women were selling tofu and bamboo shoots along with other vegetables. Hmong tribal women who had walked down from the mountains above were selling handmade hemp suits. They take months to stitch one Hmong costume.

I had pancake and Vietnamese coffee for breakfast. At the breakfast table the French guy got into a debate again. He started passing comments on an American traveller for eating pancake or crepe in a certain manner. “This is how you eat pancake”. He said. Seeing this as a perfect chance to get back at him I asked  almost immediately - “Who gets to decide that? - the right way to eat anything”. He got the sarcasm, agreed with me and replied - “Comme dit Sartre” referencing to our discussion on Sartre and his idea on how we are born free and we get to live it the way we want.

After Tom and Marie came to meet me at the homestay, we left. Michael and William decided to join us later as they were a bit late. Unfortunately, I never met them again. It is sad because, I could not bid them a proper farewell. The views as usual were amazing. Villagers had left corn for drying on the street.

We reached Ha Giang in the afternoon. Tom and Marie had to leave early. My overnight bus to Quang Ninh / Ha long Bay was leaving at 5:30PM. The bus was super cool with its sleeper seats. All together this was one of the best experiences of my life and the faces of all the people I had met on this bike loop remain etched in my memory for ever.
