Nuggehalli

On the 4th of May, I planned to drive to my hometown, Surathkal. My Mangalorean friends, Deekshit, Naresh and Kaushik joined me on this trip. We were all heading to our respective homes for a short vacation. We left Bangalore at around 7AM. After a quick stop for breakfast, we headed to Nuggehalli.

Nuggehalli is located in Channrayapatna taluk of Hassan district (140km from Bangalore). The village is famous for two Hoysala temples - Lakshmi Narasimha temple and Sadashiva temple.

Bommanna Dandanayaka, a commander of Hoysala army was commissioned by the king Vira Someshwara to build the temples in 1246CE.

I had stumbled upon this place while researching about Hoysala temples around Bangalore. There are hundreds of them that are less explored and I often try to cover one or two on my way to Surathkal. The beauty of these temples at Nuggehalli are better expressed through these pictures than in words.

At Sakleshpur, we stopped for lunch. Post lunch, we drove to Manzarabad fort. The entrance to the fort is on the main road, few kilometres downhill from Sakleshpur, while driving towards Mangalore.

I have been here a couple fo times before. The fort is star shaped but the design can only be seen through an arial view. Most of the structure is intact

We stopped at Kaladka for some famous KT before reaching Mangalore. By evening, I was at home.
